| Journal headlines, media fuzz and even a referendum in Bavaria – insect decline is on everybody’s lips. But how much do we actually know about the life history and the decline of insects? In this course, you will learn more about the current state of knowledge: Which data do we have? Which reasons are blamed for the decline of insects and which solutions are discussed to overcome it? A lot of practical work complements the theoretical part. You will help in a real research project about the effect of different vegetation structures on bees and wasps in agricultural landscapes. Throughout the course, we will investigate the nests of cavity-nesting bees and wasps and you will gain detailed knowledge about the nesting habits of different species. In the end, you will do a little analysis of the collected data. | |
