Entry Requirements
  • Students who wish to enrol in an MSc programme at Wageningen University must have:
    • At least a BSc degree (or equivalent) in a field of science that is relevant to the specific programme selected;
    • A GPA (Grade Point Average) for the entire BSc study equivalent to at least B/B+ (US system), or a degree classified at least as 2nd class upper division (UK system);
    • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
    • Good skills in mathematics and/or statistics;
    • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook; use and structure of the Internet; RSI-prevention).

    The above admission requirements apply to all MSc study programmes at Wageningen University.

    Specific admission requirements:

    There are no additional admission requirements for Environmental Sciences. However, we strongly advise you to contact one of the study advisers before, during or shortly after the admission process. It is very important that once you have been admitted, you will start attending the proper courses because most courses are offered only once a year.

    The Bachelor of Science ‘Milieuwetenschappen’ gives unconditional permission to Environmental Sciences. Relevant foreign Bachelor degrees give possible admission. Here the Admission Board Environmental Sciences has to decide.

    English language proficiency

    To study in Wageningen in an English-taught MSc programme, it is essential that you speak, read and write fluently in English. All applicants except native speakers (USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the English part of Canada) must be able to provide recent evidence of their spoken and written command of English. For more information about the English language proficiency: for Dutch students, EU students, and students from outside the EU/EFTA. In addition to the entry requirements, all students (except native speakers) are required to undergo an assessment of their English language skills at Wageningen University Language Services prior to the beginning of their study.

 

The Environmental Sciences MSc programme of Wageningen University is an international programme containing one year of course work and and one year of research. It is thesis-oriented with the individual research project (major) as its core. Compulsory elements are kept at a minimum, thus enabling the coursework to be tailored to the wishes and needs of the individual student. Study adviser and thesis supervisor both assist the student in selecting the most relevant courses from what Wageningen University has to offer.

The Environmental Sciences MSc programme of Wageningen University is an international programme offering its students advanced and specialized academic training emphasising the development of:

  • A critical attitude;
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues.

Graduates from the Environmental Sciences MSc programme are well equipped to continue academic training as a PhD student or to start or continue a professional career requiring independent scientific performance.

The MSc Environmental Sciences aims at attracting qualified BSc graduates with basic academic training as well as mid-career professionals. Initially, the annual enrolment numbered around 70: 20 Dutch students and 50 from abroad, representing over 20 nationalities. Over the years the influx of students has increased significantly, the most recent academic years showing an enrolment of around 130 (55 Dutch and 75 from abroad). Since the start of the programme in September 2002, up to and including August 2015, 911 students have graduated, representing 81 nationalities. 52% of the graduates are female.
